Decree-Law number 5 of July the 8th, 1999, states the rules and principles of the Arbitration Proceedings in the Republic of Panama.

This statutory rule forsees that parties, based on the autonomy of will principle, may solve their controversies, under rules recognized on an international level.

An example of that recognition is the fact that rules applied on Panamanian Arbitration Courts are the same rules applied on the International Arbitration Court of the International Commerce Chamber, these are the Unidroit rules.
